New Mexico State University Lost to Michigan State University

The New Mexico State University Aggies lost to Michigan State University Spartans, 67-70, in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

MSU escapes first round with win over NMSU

MSU had a 35-19 lead with 5:14 left in the first half, and Durrell Summers scored 10 of the Spartans’ first 12 points. The Spartans shot 50% in the first half and drained six three-pointers, but their post play was erratic.

That proved to be MSU’s weak point in the second half, as the Aggies attacked the basket and the Spartans had no answer defensively. Senior forward Raymar Morgan, who entered the game with a 19.3 point average in his last four contests, struggled against the Aggies forwards. But it was Morgan who had a clutch dunk off a Summers miss with 1:50 left to give MSU a four-point lead, and who drained two free throws with 18.6 seconds left. Morgan initially missed the second, but got a lucky break when Gillenwater was called for a lane violation.
