Dennis Seidenberg Acquired by Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins acquired 28-year-old defenseman Dennis Seidenberg from the Florida Panthers just hours after sending defenseman Derek Morris to the Phoenix Coyotes.

Boston’s deal to send Morris to Phoenix for a 2011 fourth-round pick gave the B’s some salary relief. Morris had signed a $3.3 million contract before the season. The Bruins then acquired Seidenberg and defenseman Matthew Bartkowski for right winers Byron Bitz and Craig Weller. The B’s also threw in a second-round draft pick.

The moves should still allow the B’s to help themselves up front where they need it the most if they are able to strike the right deal before this afternoon’s 3 p.m. trade deadline hits.

Seidenberg, 28, played for Germany in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and will be joining his fourth NHL team. He’s played in 357 games since being selected by the Flyers in the sixth round of the 2001 draft. He has two goals and 20 assists in 61 games this season. Bartkowski is currently playing for Ohio State University.
