Are NYC schools closed Thursday? Not anymore. NYC schools are to reopen Thursday after the cancellation due to the snow storm and inches of snow accumulations.

NYC Schools to Reopen Thursday

Public school students, the fun is over. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says classes will resume tomorrow, even as forecasters predict three to five additional inches of snow this evening.

“Sorry about that, for those who wanted another day off, but going to school is one of the most important things we do every day,” the mayor says.

Bloomberg says the city’s sanitation workers will be able to keep up with what remains of the storm, clearing and salting all major roads by late tonight for tomorrow’s commute.

The mayor says current snow accumulations vary, from five inches in Central Park, to seven inches at LaGuardia Airport and 8.5 at Great Kills.

Bloomberg also urged New Yorkers to give blood. He says the New York Blood Center had 1,500 donor cancellations today, because of the storm. To schedule an appointment this weekend, call 800-933-2566.
