UK ‘Couples Retreat’ poster – controversial

November 15, 2009
By dailypost

I have seen the ‘Couples Retreat’ comedy movie when it was shown in the U.S. weeks back. It was not impressive nor efficient in its desire to make people laugh. In fact, I found the movie boring. Now Universal is doing its best to market ‘Couples Retreat’ internationally by deleting ‘unknown’ stars on its poster. Have you seen the UK ‘Couples Retreat’ poster? In the film’s UK release, Universal removed the black actors from both the poster’s photo and the list of stars typed out.

Isn’t that racist?

The studio said it regretted causing offence and has abandoned plans to use the revised poster in other countries… A Universal spokesman said the revised advert aimed ‘to simplify the poster to actors who are most recognisable in international markets’.

See the difference. The UK poster (left) and the US poster (right).
